The community of Kampung Rempak, Sabak Auh District, Siak Regency, was furious after finding a Supporting Puskesmas (Pustu) which was supposed to be a health service center even abandoned and not operating. Ironically, the head of the pustu with the initials Y who is responsible for the facility is allegedly more often opening personal practices in his home than serving the community in Pustu.
Pustu, previously built with large funds, now looks neglected. The building that used to be magnificent now looks dirty, with weeds growing around it, wall paint starts to peel, and the door is often locked. A number of residents who want to seek treatment claimed to be disappointed because Pustu was often closed without clarity.
"We came to seek treatment, but the door is always locked. There are no officers on guard. This pustu should be a place for people to get health services, not left empty like a haunted house!" said a resident in an annoyed tone.
The allegation that the Head of Pustu prefers to open a practice at his home getting stronger after some residents claimed to have to pay to get health services from Y. In fact, as a health worker who is placed in public facilities, Y should carry out their duties in Pustu, not utilize their positions for personal gain.
"He never existed in Pustu, but if you want to seek treatment at his house, always can. Of course pay! This is clearly unfair for those of us who need free health services at Pustu," said a resident who was reluctant to be named.
The village community is now asking the Head of the Siak Regency Health Office, Dr. Benny, to immediately intervene and take firm action against the head of the Pustu who was allegedly negligent in carrying out his duties. Residents urged that Y be immediately removed from his position and replaced with medical personnel who were truly committed to serving the community.
"If you can't work properly, it's better to replace it. We want officers who really care about public health, not just looking for their own profit!" firmly a local community leader.
Until this news was published, the Head of the Siak Regency Health Office, Dr. Benny, has not given an official statement regarding this issue. However, residents emphasized that they would not remain silent and would continue to voice demands until there were concrete actions from the local government.
